nuke-gara (ぬけがら) - the Japanese term for the discarded skin/shell of an insect. In the case of the Cicada, it is common for the bug, protected by it's shell, to be hibernating underground for years before emerging out of the ground and completing it's life-cycle as an adult. These shells are then discarded and forgotten, never to be missed. The cicada may only live a few weeks in it's adult form, but may have spent up to 17 years underground. It is our goal and mission to tell stories about nature, the world and current environmental issues so we will never forget how important it is to us and our future generations. |
